What about now?

Acest cântec este, sper, primul dintr-o serie de comparații original vs cover. Astăzi, dragii mei, „What about now?” În colțul din dreapta, îi avem pe cei de la Daughtry, pe al căror album odihnește cu mândrie originalul piesei, compus de Ben Moody, David hodges și Josh Hartzler. Primii doi sunt foști membri ai trupei Evanescence, iar al treilea este chiar soțul solistei aceluiași grup. Piesa este una din cele două de pe album la care solistul nu a contribuit cu altceva în afară de voce. A fost lansată în mod oficial în iulie 2008.

Irlandezii de la Westlife au preluat-o în octombrie 2009, pe albumul „Where we are”, album al cărui unic extras de single urma să fie „What about now”. De altfel, nici nu a fost nevoie de un al doilea. Piesa a prins foarte bine la public, atingând categorii de public la care băieții nici nu visaseră până atunci!

Nici nu este de mirare că piesa a avut un asemenea succes! Are un mesaj foarte sensibil, cald, fără să fie însă siropos. Metafora pe care o surprinde este aplicabilă pentru atât de multe tipuri de relații, că pare un îndemn universal. Și avem pe de o parte vocea sinceră, pătrunzătoare, a lui Chris, și timbrul său unic, ce te face să simți emoția până în adâncul sufletului. Pe de cealaltă, inocența și căldura variantei Weslife. Foarte, foarte greu de ales!
